She comes from Mexican-American heritage, and she graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in kinesiology. She had a slow start in her career as an actress until she kicked up a media ruckus with her Desperate Housewives character.

As she says, she became an overnight sensation after working at it for many years! She has expressed interest in making movies in the future, and recently, she founded a Los Angeles restaurant. By some accounts, she was once ugly, is building an environmentally friendly home, and has been the usual subject of gossip.
